REVIEW: Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris—until she meets Étienne St. Claire: perfect, Parisian (and English and American, which makes for a swoon-worthy accent), and utterly irresistible. The only problem is that he's taken, and Anna might be, too, if anything comes of her almost-relationship back home.

As winter melts into spring, will a year of romantic near-misses end with the French kiss Anna—and readers—have long awaited?

As someone who is most decidedly not a fan of contemporary anything with an emphasis on romance, I can now say that I will read any book that Stephanie Perkins publishes. I am a fan for life. Anna was just that good. I don't even know where to start on the heap of awesome that was this book.

Perkins' style of writing was perfect for an emotional, magical book like Anna. The light, fluffy scenes rocked. The deep, soul-searching scenes rocked. The romantic, happy scenes rocked. The dark, sad scenes really rocked. There was nothing about Anna that didn't rock. I honestly can't think of a single flaw.

Anna was an amazing, easy to relate to main character who drew me into the story from page one. She amused me with tales of Banana Elephants and Bridge Sandwiches, dazzled me with images of beautiful Paris, and amazed me with her feelings for St. Claire, the leading man. The side characters were all engaging and interesting to read about. Étienne was one of the sweetest, hottest heroes ever. Even if he was short. I don't usually like short guys, but this one, I would definitely make an exception for.

No matter who you are, Anna is one of my top recommendations. If you haven't read it yet, do it now, and then you can eagerly anticipate Lola and the Boy Next Door with the rest of us. 'Cause there's nothing better than purple hair and a dude named Cricket.
