I posted yesterday about the controversy surrounding Dr. Wesley Scroggins' criticism and challenge of Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, and recommended that you guys go out and buy a copy of the book. But I've decided that that isn't really fair to those of you who can't afford to, but want to be involved in fighting back. Well, being spotted in public reading a banned or challenged book is fighting back, right? So, from now until Oct. 3, I'll be giving away a copy of Speak.

I probably won't read this books as this is not my genre. But that does not mean I will let a Scroggin decide for me what or what not I should read!

I would like to speak out also but do have a mind of my own and would like to read what exactly has caused the backlash before making my own decision. Hopefully I get lucky.
I hadn't read Speak when this controversy hit, but it's been on my TBR list for ages. Book banning, no matter the book, infuriates me - and now I want to read this book more than ever. Thank you for speaking out!
I haven't read Speak, but because of this idiot I want too. But i'd want too read the book myself, just to see whats the problem.
I believe someones opinion shouldn't stop another from reading a book. What if this book stops a suicide? What if it reaches into somebody and makes them breathe again after what they've been through? I say, he should shut his mouth and stop deciding whats best for the world. He sure in hell doesn't rule me and I want everyone to speak up too!
